How it works

Three steps, one calculation: the great-circle bearing to Makkah.

01

We read your coordinates

With your permission, the tool uses your browser’s location service to get your latitude and longitude — the basis for every qibla direction from my location calculation.

02

We calculate the bearing

Using spherical trigonometry, we compute the shortest-path kaaba direction from your position to the Kaaba’s coordinates (21.4225°N, 39.8262°E).

03

We point the qibla direction arrow

If your device has a compass sensor, the qibla compass needle updates live as you turn your phone. Otherwise, we show the bearing in degrees from true north.

Accuracy

Built on the same math used in navigation, not guesswork.

This Qibla Finder Tool doesn’t rely on a flat-map straight line, which becomes increasingly wrong the farther you are from Makkah. Instead, it uses the great-circle formula that accounts for the curvature of the Earth — the same method used in aviation and maritime navigation.

For the most reliable qibla direction compass degrees, calibrate your phone’s compass (move it in a figure-eight motion) and use the tool outdoors, away from metal objects or magnets that can interfere with the sensor.

  • 01Great-circle bearing calculation, not flat-projection estimates.
  • 02Live qibla direction tracking on supported mobile devices.
  • 03Manual degree reading available where sensors aren’t supported.
  • 04No account, no app download — a quick qibla direction right in your browser.
Complete guide

What Is a Qibla Finder Tool?

A qibla finder is a tool that works out to find the qibla direction — the kaaba direction you face during prayer — from wherever you happen to be. Instead of guessing or relying on an old paper diagram, this online qibla direction tool reads your device’s GPS coordinates and turns them into a live qibla compass reading, so the question where is qibla from your exact spot gets answered in seconds. It works the same way whether you’re checking the qibla direction from my location at home, in a hotel room, or in an unfamiliar city.

Which devices can use this qibla locator?

This Qibla Finder Tool works on almost any modern device with a browser and location services turned on, including Android smartphones (Chrome, Samsung Internet, Edge), iPhone and iPad (Safari), and laptops or desktop computers (Chrome, Edge, Firefox). For the live qibla direction experience — a qibla direction arrow that moves automatically as you turn your phone — the device needs a built-in compass sensor (magnetometer), which is common on smartphones and tablets but usually missing on laptops or desktops. If your device has no compass sensor, the tool still shows the qibla direction in degrees from true north so you can line it up manually.

Qibla Finder Tool not working? Here’s what to do

If the tool can’t detect your location or direction, it’s almost always because location permission hasn’t been allowed in your browser or operating system. Follow the settings for your browser below, then reload the page and try again.

Settings for Chrome

  1. Click the lock icon or info icon to the left of the website address in the address bar.
  2. Select “Site settings.”
  3. Find the “Location” option and change it to “Allow.”
  4. Reload the page, then click “Find my qibla direction” again.

Settings for Edge

  1. Click the lock icon to the left of the website address in the address bar.
  2. Select “Permissions for this site.”
  3. Find “Location” and set it to “Allow.”
  4. Reload the page and try detecting the qibla direction again.

Safari (iOS and macOS)

For Safari on iOS:

  1. Open the “Settings” app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down and select “Safari.”
  3. Tap “Location” and choose “Ask” or “Allow.”
  4. Return to Safari, reload the page, and allow location access when prompted.

For Safari on macOS:

  1. Open the Apple menu, select “System Settings,” then “Privacy & Security.”
  2. Select “Location Services” and make sure it’s turned on.
  3. Scroll down, find “Safari,” and make sure its location permission is enabled.
  4. Reload the Qibla Finder Tool page and allow location access when the browser asks.

Is this qibla direction accurate?

Yes. This qibla finder uses the same great-circle bearing formula used in aviation and maritime navigation, rather than a simple straight line on a flat map that becomes misleading the farther you are from Makkah. How accurate the live qibla direction turns out to be depends on your device’s GPS and compass sensor — for the best result, use the tool outdoors and calibrate your phone’s qibla compass by moving it in a figure-eight motion.

How to use this qibla finder

  1. Click the “Find my qibla direction” button at the top of the page.
  2. Allow location access when your browser asks for it.
  3. The qibla direction arrow will automatically point toward the Kaaba — turn your phone until the gold needle lines up with the N mark (if your device supports a compass sensor).
  4. If your device has no compass sensor, use the degree number shown alongside a physical compass or any other compass app to work out the qibla direction.
Frequently asked

Common questions about finding your qibla direction

Why does the Qibla Finder Tool need my location?

Your latitude and longitude are required to calculate the kaaba direction between where you are standing and the Kaaba. This calculation happens right in your browser — your location isn’t stored or sent anywhere.

Where is the Kaaba, exactly?

The Kaaba sits at the center of the Masjid al-Haram in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, at approximately 21.4225°N, 39.8262°E. Every qibla direction calculation on this page is a bearing toward that exact point.

My phone doesn’t seem to have a compass. What do I do?

Some devices or browsers don’t expose compass data to websites. In that case, the tool shows you the bearing in degrees from true north, which you can match against any physical compass or compass app.

Why might the qibla direction arrow seem slightly off?

Phone compasses can be affected by nearby metal, magnets, or an uncalibrated sensor. Try moving your phone in a figure-eight motion to recalibrate, and step away from cars, laptops, or speakers.

Is this different from a GPS-based qibla app?

The underlying calculation is the same: a great-circle bearing to the Kaaba’s coordinates. This Qibla Finder Tool simply runs it in your browser instead of a downloaded app, using your device’s built-in location and orientation sensors.
